What affects the buying price of carbide inserts

Not all inserts have the same composition. We assess the WC-Co grade, other materials in the batch and how the inserts have been sorted. We confirm a final offer after examining the material.

WC-Co grade and insert type

Cemented carbide contains tungsten carbide and a binder, commonly cobalt. Grades vary in binder content, grain size and additives. Include a material designation if you know it; otherwise describe the insert and its use.

Purity: steel, swarf, solder and oil

Separate loose inserts from holders, steel swarf, brazed tools and other scrap where it is safe to do so. Foreign metals and contamination change the proportion of usable carbide and the work needed to process it.

Coated inserts

Coatings such as TiN and TiAlN are common. Tell us whether your batch is mostly coated, uncoated or mixed, especially for larger quantities. A coating alone does not rule out purchasing.

Quantity and packing

Approximate weight helps with a first estimate and transport arrangements. Pack inserts in sturdy closed containers. If you have several groups, label coated inserts, uncoated inserts and mixed material separately. Regular and one-off deliveries can both be discussed.

What to send for an initial assessment

The final offer depends on the material received and checked. For a first assessment, send:

  • A short description of the inserts or components of a mixed batch.
  • Approximate weight in kilograms.
  • Whether it consists of clean inserts or includes other materials.
  • Your city or region so that handover can be arranged.
